Congratulations to Ashtyn Scruggs for being selected as the 2013 winner of the Allyn Schwinn Scholarship! Ashtyn has not only overcome a physical deformity at birth that made doctors doubtful she would ever be able to dance, but also a broken back, the result of an accident her sophomore year. With hard work and dedication, she has continued dancing and was the captain of the Northern Stars dance team at Lee’s Summit North High School. Ashtyn graduated with a 4.02 GPA, was a member of the National Honor Society and Vice President of her student body. She was a Truman Medical Center Explorers Program leader, volunteered at St. Luke’s Hospital, Ronald McDonald House, and Harvesters, and started a dress drive program at her school to help students in need of dresses for school functions. She’s attending the University of Missouri – Columbia, where she will study Pre Professional Physical Therapy. Best of luck to you, Ashtyn!
