Miss Kansas Drill Team Festival
Many thanks to Gail Holder, coach of the amazing Olathe South Golden Girls, for asking me to judge the Miss Kansas Drill Team Festival! It was a great experience! I had never had the opportunity to judge in Kansas before, so that was pretty neat. They don’t rank their teams over there as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. Teams get rewarded for superior rankings which is cool. I think the contest has been around for 30 years or more, and I’m so glad I got to be a part of it this year. I saw some really amazing teams from the Kansas side. Another cool thing they do over there is this thing called showcase performances where the judges pick a handful of routines that they think were really outstanding, and those are performed again at the end of the day in front of all the teams and spectators. I snapped a couple of photos.
And I was so intrigued by these mohawk headpieces worn during a hip hop routine! Very creative and effective! What a fun day!
Hitchkicks, jazz hands and faux hawks oh my,
